DIDN'T SUMMER ONLY JUST START?

The Summer of 1996: After months spent doing extra-hard yard work, walking dogs and pretty much anything I could to look pathetic and thus get strangers to give me money, I set off to Wal-Mart to buy happiness in the form of a yellow Game Boy Pocket. Upon this purchase, for about two days, I was happy. Super Mario Brothers was impossible to beat and Tecmo Bowl was perfect (although my beloved Patriots weren’t exactly stellar). I was truly enjoying myself- until the dreaded day arrived: the first day of school.
    “But summer can’t be over yet! I was just starting to enjoy myself,” I exclaimed. I realized that, after only a few days’ pure bliss, I was headed back to the dreaded drudgery of the classroom. And with that, my Game Boy Pocket was ever so rudely replaced with far less colorful (or fun) textbooks and supplies.
    So here we are again. Back-to-school time is upon us once more. But before you let those old, dejected feelings resurface; consider the end of my tale: As time went on, I realized I could both attend school and make time for my beloved Game Boy. In fact, I even found a little time to play a bit of Tetris at school.
    See? There are two sides to every story- a “glass-half-full” mentality, if you would. We can now look back and realize all the great things about going back to school.
